It's the 4th of July... are you ready to Take the Risk?

On this 4th of July, we remember the founding of our great nation and salute all those who have fought to keep it safe throughout history.

Good news everybody!

The PA DeMolay website, located at http://www.pademolay.org, is back up and running! Huzzah! I appreciate your patience as we sorted out our server issues.

With that in mind, today is going to be a fairly short post, as I'm in the process of updating everything over on the website. As usual, when I'm in need of a short post, I took a trip over to The Art of Manliness for ideas. They never let me down!

As many of us will be flying this holiday season (or within the next year), I encourage you to take a look at their article titled How to Fly Like a Gentleman. It has some great tips on travelling as well as some basic life lessons. Check it out and see what you can get out of it!

Here at the PA DeMolay office we are always looking for new ideas to share with you that can help your DeMolay program. Recently, we've been discussing a lot of ideas revolving around fundraising. As our Chapters and other organizations get back into the swing of things, many are looking for new ways to bolster their bank accounts and raise some money.

So, along those lines, I went in search of some ideas for fundraising to share with you. Rather than list all of the good ideas here, I will just share a website with you. The Masonic World Grows

Two posts in one day! Heresy! Actually, this is just a short post.

Most of you know of my love all things fez like, so I generally keep up on what is going on with the groups that happen to wear them as part of their regalia. Thanks to Bro. Chris Hodapp (of the Freemasons for Dummies blog) I found out that the Shriners have just expanded their reach into Europe by opening Emirat Shrine in Heidleberg, Germany. This is the first time that an independent Shrine has existed on European soil, making this a huge step for Shriners International.

Why is this important to us as DeMolays? As DeMolay continues to grow in Italy, Romania, and other European Countries, other parts of the American Masonic tradition are starting to jump the pond as well. For the first time in history, Masonic innovations in one part of the world are being easily transported to other areas. This is creating a truly world-wide fraternal experience for both DeMolays and Freemasons.

Congratulations to the members of Emirat Temple and we hope to see European DeMolay grow in conjunction with them!

Online Civility

Today was one of those days where I didn't have a clue as to what to write about. As usual, I shot over to the Art of Manliness blog and looked for something interesting. Lo and behold, I found a great article that pertains to all young people today - especially our young men.

The internet has become the main mode of communication for almost all age groups. As different generations begin to gel on the web, it seems that more and more people are getting in trouble for things they say or do online. Personally, I've had the experience of having to fire someone from their job for poor judgement that they used online. They didn't think it was fair, but when it pertains to the business, all bets are off.

So, take a moment, and read this article on how to be Civil and a Gentlemen on the Internet.

I had some contact with some DeMolay Brothers from Brazil this morning and decided to do some checking on the blog. Lo and behold, it seems that we are getting a large influx of traffic from our South American neighbors.

A short one today...

Today's post is going to be a short and fairly unsubstantive one. It's been a crazy week here at Patton Campus. From some major computer glitches, to staff not feeling well, to the Flag Football Tournament, and the impending PMYF Board of Directors meeting, life has been hectic. Pile onto that the Key Cru, the Youth Minutes, and the Penn Rainbow that all need to go out (almost 4500 newsletters) and you can see the that the blog has to take a back seat until Thursday.

I do want to hit on a couple of points though.

First I am pleased to announce that Bro. Isaac Holtzer, of Westmoreland Chapter has won the Fezzy Trivia Contest for this week. The correct answer to the question of "Wilbur Chapter, formerly of the Bethlehem, PA area was once prominently featured in Life Magazine. This article went on to cause a lot of trouble for the Chapter, but, more importantly it was also responsible for helping to get DeMolay started in what foreign country?" was "Australia." However, for the second week in a row there has been only one answer to the Fezzy Trivia Question. Are the questions just too hard? Do you not care? What can I do to make it more interesting? Please let me know!
