Centennial Memory #22: Allentown Basketball

To celebrate the DeMolay Centennial, PA DeMolay will be counting down 100 memories worth celebrating that took place within the DeMolay Chapters and Jurisdiction of Pennsylvania.

The other day, we discussed the annual Basketball tournaments. Aside from the fun weekends at Patton Campus, Chapters used to travel to other Chapters, taking part in Basketball leagues. There was a league held within Pennsylvania, but there was also one held within the Mid-Atlantic Region, allowing members to compete against Chapters from Maryland and other Jurisdictions.

Allentown was a Chapter in the 1970's that dominated in Basketball. As the article below from the May 1974 issue of the Cordon explains, the Chapter held a 79-1 record over the course of six seasons. Over a ten year period, they won 8 state championships.

Until next time - "Dad" Joe Pullin
